Let’s get it out there, the marketing for Barbie worked and matched the film really well. From the narrator’s comments, Depression Barbie to Ryan Gosling’s acting, it was an amazing film that I will be rewatching again and again whether it’s on TV or streaming services.
Although I grew up with Barbie, the doll franchise that impacted me more in my preteens and teens I am already thinking forward for a Bratz live-action, one to replace the bad 2007 one.
Bratz is a franchise that has had a influence on my fashion as much as the celebrities I’ve been into since I was a teenager. Their passion for fashion slogan inspired me to be more creative and express myself the way I saw fashion. I love fashion games so when Rock Angelz came out, followed by Forever Diamondz and The Movie on PS2, I played them non-stop. So much so I still think they are the best fashion games and there still has not been one since. I used to watch the TV series after school on 4Kids TV, as well as watch the animated films (the only ones are Starrin ’n’ Stylin, Rock Angelz, Genie Magic, Forever Diamondz and Fashion Pixiez) on DVD. The impact they had on me has also influenced my nieces in many ways today.
Now with the resurgence of media I grew up with such as The Little Mermaid and Barbie, I can’t help but dive into what a Bratz live-action could be. I don’t know about who the cast could be but in terms of plot and marketing, I have some suggestions.
What could be the plot of the movie?
The Bratz pack go to war with YourThing Mag. There’s a famous gala presenting a competition to all the top magazines in the world and a grand prize has the Bratz and YourThing going at it!
But I would also like to see a movie that focuses on The Bratz with their friends, as well as Burdine and the Tweevils. There could be a new person in town who gets close to them (maybe they’re introduced by one of their boyfriends e.g. Cameron, Dylan or a friend e.g. Kumi, Fianna) but later is revealed to be Burdine’s child or the Tweevils sibling or cousin!
I want a campy movie but age The Bratz pack to at least their early 20’s, as there’s enough previous films and episodes of the series where they were teens and we’ve seen with Barbie that it’s possible to do.
The plots I came up with have to be in an alternate universe where they are barely seen in university or education. They could work more on their online magazine, social media and youtube series, and spend more time with other characters in the franchise.
And the release? The movie would be great for a 25th anniversary release, in 2026.
And the marketing?
I’m probably throwing out free ideas for MGA but as I’ve been writing letters to them, I hope they know I’m very easy to contact if they need me in the boardroom for ideas. Here’s 12 ideas I came up with:
- Barbie’s signature colour is pink while Bratz is purple. Paint the world purple — posters, purple emojis everywhere and add any memes with the colour or brand logo.
- A pop-up design center — where people can make their own t-shirts or posters like in the PS2 games.
- The Rock Angelz to Forever Diamondz lines (2005–2007) had a lot of lines (like Treasures, Pretty ’n’ Punk or Midnight Dance) that Millennials and Gen Z would love to replicate and could come back as a trend. For example, Rock Angelz screams “have a concert or launch party” with the original and/or new singers that can be streamed live, there can also be karaoke nights or silent disco events with all their music.
- At the same time, give the fans a remaster of Rock Angelz, Forever Diamondz and The Movie games for all consoles and PC.
- A pop-up Eitan’s smoothie bar or a special Eithan smoothie on the menu in collaboration with Smoothie King, Jamba and Innocent Smoothie.
- Cameron and Dylan loved skateboarding so why not add exclusive decks and designs?
- Bratz and YourThing magazine can have clashes on social media for months before release, shading each other in captions or videos, sort of like this.
- A special Tweevil nose bandage design.
- Accessory and shoe brands to collab with — Claire’s Accessories, GENTLE MONSTER, Dune, Converse, Baby Shoop, PUNYUS Forever 21, StyleNanda and Clarks.
- Royale dog treats in collaboration with Pedigree and other brands.
- Beauty collabs to work with — NARS, Urban Decay, Fenty Beauty, Missha, Innisfree, Dr Gio, ISEHAN and Kanebo.
- Finally, there’s a couple of fashion brands that would be great to collab with would be — Farai London, Rodeo Crowns, Vivienne Westwood, Maniere de Voir, Primark, Chanel, Miu Miu and SLY.
I hope with some of these ideas that MGA listens and makes a live-action happen. Like for Barbie, society’s ridiculous expectation of women to stop playing make-believe, while men are allowed to grow up and retain their childhood interest and hobbies is something that needs to be squashed.
Give us a real passion for fashion, fun film of the Bratz!
